Halloween 2017

What a great start to The Holiday Season, amiright?! I know I sound like a broken mom-record every year but this was SO FUN. All the kids (even Lucy!) loved dressing up and totally got into trick or treating. Of course I had to be much more convincing that they do in fact have to pay the parent candy tax. #gimmeallyourcandykids

Our little pack went as the Alice and Wonderland crew. How do you get your children to dress up as a theme you ask? Basically start subliminal messaging for about six months. Ha! But seriously, Harper has wanted to be Alice for at least that long and her siblings happily indulged her.

Surprising absolutely no one with my crazy, I made the kids’ costumes this year. In case you’re in the mood to ramp up your September crafting/stress level next year, here’s how I made it happen.

Alice: Dress pattern/pinafore pattern/bow/socks/shoes

Mad Hatter: Vest pattern/pants/shoes/pink shirt/scarf from goodwill (similar)/hat was from the DTLA fabric district that I jazzed up(similar here)/tea set

White Rabbit: Bunny costume (I added a felt heart)/blue collar pattern/wire glasses/tiny trumpet/shoesHalloween 2017|Ahrens at Home

I thought Harper’s costume would steal the show as it was my pride and sewing joy but LUCY! Would you look at that fat rabbit? I couldn’t stop laughing at her! Harper even said, Luce, you are just cracking me up.

While this year was one of the best with our kids (their ages are perfection!) but it only served to underlined how much we miss our babies. Can you even imagine how sweet the addition of baby tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum would have been in this setup? Of course we miss them every day but holidays and special events are just so bittersweet without them.

I hope your Halloween was just as sweet and you got more snickers than dum-dums in your treat bucket. 😉

They were there with this motley crew in spirit, doll! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

PS I totally thought you would have Harper go as The Queen of Hearts!
