Thanksgiving 2017

I thought I would sneak in a last minute Thanksgiving post before everything turns into all Christmas, all the time. We spent the holiday at home since my Dad and step-mom were off to Hawaii and we had just visited all of our Iowa family. We actually love having a low-key Thanksgiving. We were in Pajamas until 3:45, aka living our best holiday life.

The main motive behind this post is to humble-brag that I successfully cooked a full turkey all by myself (consider this horn tooted!). So, BEHOLD that bird.

I did an herbed butter rub and shoved it in the oven for 3 hours. I considered the Alton Brown brining method but then came to my senses and decided to baby step it into holiday hosting.

Like I said, we kicked in our jammies, watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade while devouring homemade cinnamon rolls (just wanted to make sure we got our carb count in!). Then we basically flipped between football and playing outside until it was time for dinner.

The kids were hilarious about wanting to set a fancy table so we let them set out the china, cloth napkins and drink from fluted water glasses. When we lit the candles Hudson whispered, this is like a restaurant! I guess it pays to keep the daily dinner expectations real low. 😉

We finished the night with Charlie Brown’s Thanksgiving special + Mayflower episode. A pretty perfect day!

I did want to share one of my favorite family Thanksgiving recipes with you. It’s for corn casserole and it’s simple but so delicious! You can find my favorite recipe for turkey leftovers here.
